The Division of Adult Education and Literacy (DAEL) promotes programs that help American adults get the basic skills they need to be productive workers, family members, and citizens. The major areas of support are Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, and English Language Acquisition. These programs emphasize basic skills such as reading, writing, math, English language competency, and problem-solving.

The CAELA Network project was funded by the Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE), U.S. Department of Education to provide assistance to professional developers, teachers, administrators, and others who work with adult English language learners.

U.S.A. Learns!

U.S.A. Learns is a free Web site funded by the U.S. Department of Education to support immigrants who want to learn or improve their English skills as they become part of American society. Designed as an online tool for learning English outside of a classroom, the site offers contextualized practice activities in listening, reading, writing, speaking and life skills necessary for success at work and in the community. ll instructional materials are online; there are no videos or workbooks to purchase.

LEP.gov promotes a positive and cooperative understanding of the importance of language access to federally conducted and federally assisted programs. This website supports fair, reasoned and consistent implementation of Executive Order 13166, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI), and the Title VI regulations regarding language access. This site also acts as a clearinghouse, providing and linking to information, tools, and technical assistance regarding limited English proficiency and language services for federal agencies, recipients of federal funds, users of federal programs and federally assisted programs, and other stakeholders.

America's Literacy Directory America's Literacy Directory

America's Literacy Directory (ALD) is a web site that allows users to find local literacy providers, including providers of classes of English as a second language, in all 50 states and the U.S. territories. The ALD includes literacy programs for adults, children, and families. You can also search the ALD for volunteer opportunities in your neighborhood.
