| Abstract: | This report summarizes the information submitted to the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Bilingual Education and Minority Language Affairs by State Educational Agencies (SEAs) in the Survey of States' Limited English Proficient Students and Available Educational Programs and Services for the 1994-95 school year. The explicit purpose of the annual SEA Survey is to collect information on the number of limited English proficient (LEP) students in the various states and outlying territories and jurisdictions and the educational services provided or available to them. Results are summarized in the areas of educational condition of LEP students, including grade retention, dropout rates, and academic test performance, and educational programs for LEP students, including federal, state and local programs. Implications for improving data collection and analysis are considered. Three appendices contain supplementary tables by state educational agency containing information on SEA's LEP population, data notes, and the SEA survey form for 1994-95. (jpb) |
