| Abstract: | This report compiles state legislative requirements for educating limited English proficient (LEP) students. Information was collected by examining the legislative directives provided for public schools by statutory authority in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Information is provided regarding state-level provisions for: (1) instructional programs for limited English proficient students; (2) English as a second language (ESL) and bilingual/dual language teacher certification or endorsement; and (3) funding instructional programs for LEP students. The findings are presented in summary tables and on a state-by-state basis. (EV) |
