AB: This collection of papers critically examines the qualitative research methodology from the perspective of evidence and explores practical ways for clinicians to more effectively use qualitative inquiry. There are 12 chapters in five parts. Part 1, "The Nature of Evidence," includes (1) "The Status of Qualitative Research as Evidence" (Ross E.G. Upshur) and (2) "What is Problematic about Evidence?" (Irena Madjar and Jo Ann Walton). Part 2, "The Nature of the Question," includes (3) "Who Decides What to Count as Evidence?" (Lynne D. Ray and Maria Mayan) and (4) "Questions in Use" (Janice M. Swanson). Part 3, "The Nature of Standards," includes (5) "Some Pragmatic Thoughts about Evaluating Qualitative Health Research" (Anton J. Kuzel and John D. Engel), "The Implications of Disciplinary Agenda on Quality Criteria for Qualitative Research" (Sally E. Thorne), and (7) "Community-Based Research: Negotiating Research Agendas and Evaluating Outcomes" (Nancy Gibson, Ginger Gibson, and Ann C. Macaulay). Part 4, "The Nature of Analysis and Interpretation," includes (8) "Constructing Evidence within the Qualitative Project" (Lynn M. Meadows and Janice M. Morse) and (9) "Qualitative Verification: Building Evidence by Extending Basic Findings" (Janice M. Morse). Part 5, "The Nature of Utilization," includes (10) "The Nature of Outcomes" (Janice M. Swanson), (11) "Using Qualitative Research in Clinical Practice" (Karin Olson), and (12) "Research Utilization and Qualitative Research" (Carole A. Estabrooks).
